FAQs

Are the sessions confidential?

All sessions are confidential except in the rare event when there is a risk of harm to someone who is vulnerable.

How long are the sessions?

All sessions are 50 minutes long.

How often are the sessions?

The sessions are on a weekly basis at a time and day agreed by all of us.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you are unable to attend the session it is important to raise this as early as possible. I understand how work and family life can intervene. I will always try to offer an alternative session if I can. However I do need 3 days notice for the cancellation of a session. Otherwise the session will be charged in full.

Do you work at weekends?

No, I work Monday to Thursday, starting at 8am. My last session is 7pm.

Can we come for some guidance even if we’re not having serious problems?

Absolutely. Many couples come for a time limited set of sessions almost as a preventative measure. It’s helpful to recognise some pitfalls and deal with them before they become a problem.

Can we come even though we are no longer living together?

Yes, this is conciliatory work. It is a safe place to look at what the ongoing difficulties are for you, particularly regarding changing parenting issues, new partners etc.

Do you go into our past?

Yes, I work psychodynamically. This means that I am interested in what you have experienced in your past which has made you who you are and has informed your choices. Very often old unhelpful patterns of behaviour which were there for a reason in our past are no longer relevant or helpful. It’s useful to explore this, adopt new ways of communicating and discard ones that are no longer useful.
